“I recommend Hook Home Help to anyone in need of support. I chose Penny for her friendly and caring nature, her empathy and considerate can-do approach. I soon learnt how dependable she is and that’s reassuring when hiring to support my mother.
Penny has never missed a beat in the support she offers and that has come as a great relief after being let down over and over in the past. She keeps an activity log too and relays on any news deemed relevant to keep me informed and up to speed. You just can’t find this level of care elsewhere.”
Every client is different and every client and their family has different needs and wants. This client had had a long stay in hospital and when she came out, the garden had grown into a jungle, the house was full of dust and dead pot plants and mountains on top of mountains of post. Inside the mountains of post, among the junk mail, lay very many letters from the NHS about hospital appointments in all different departments and at all different venues. The situation was overwhelming for everyone involved.
Bit by bit I supported her to get on top of things. We started with the immeditate issues of the post and the appointments. We sorted through things to keep and things to go, a bit at a time, in a way that was manageable. I arranged all the appointments and took her to them. Usually I would recommend the Hook Care Group for appointments because it is cheaper but this client needed had different needs, she needed support during the appointments and the family needed to know what had happened in the appointments.
This client needed the same person to come every day and to have one person who she could rely on, and that the family could rely on. With her family working full time with other commitments, they needed an extra pair of hands and this is how Hook Home Home started.
When the time was right we started on getting on top of things in the house and in the garden. It was overwhelming and easy to put it off but, a bit at a time, we slowly started the transformation.
As the relationship developed and the client felt stronger both physically and mentally, I was able to reduce my hours. I have supported her to be able to get on top of things in the home and in the garden. Helen is now helping with the cleaning so that she has two people who she knows and trusts to help her. The garden has been taken over by Hook Home Help’s special gardener and they have formed a happy friendship. She knows that she can trust him and can rely on him to help out in the house with any problems she might have. Together we have formed a small team to enable this lady to continue living independently at home.
