Jan joined the Hook Home Help team in 2025 through a wonderful twist of fate…. I actually met her daughter in a yoga class! Her daughter insisted we meet, believing we’d be a perfect match for the business, and she was absolutely right. Jan had recently retired from a long, dedicated career in nursing and was looking for rewarding part-time work.

She brings an incredible wealth of knowledge, reliability, and a totally unflappable, empathetic nature to everything she does. As her former nursing manager beautifully put it: "Not only was she an amazing nurse, she is a wonderful human being who is so genuinely thoughtful and caring... whoever is fortunate enough to have Jan visit and support will benefit from her excellent communication skills."

Currently, Jan provides specialised companion care to clients living with dementia. She has even earned the heartwarming nickname “The Flower Lady” from one client, as Jan brings fresh flowers every week for them to arrange together. Whether they are reading the parish magazine, looking through old photos, walking in the garden, or helping with traditional home tasks like cleaning and decluttering, Jan treats everyone with utmost care. We are incredibly lucky to have her.
