Hook Home Help is helping people in and around the home in Hook and surrounding areas

Hook Home Help has a new job and two new friends. I am popping in every lunchtime to see a lady who has had a fall and broken some bones. Every day I let myself in and make her some soup, let the dog out into the garden and we have a chat. I then let her daughter know how she is doing, and leave her with some coffee and toast.

At first it was a bit hard for everyone. The dog was confused by this new person and the lady and I were getting to know the system and each other. A week on, this lovely little dog greets me happily and lets me wipe her paws as she comes in from the garden. The lady and I are now firm friends. I have heard some of the family history including fascinating stories of life behind the Berlin wall.

One day, she had been up having a wash before I got there and was getting back into bed saying what an effort it all was with the injuries. As she got into bed she sighed and said, “Oh, I forgot my perfume!”. At that moment the dog had to go out and the microwave pinged so I dashed off to do things. Later on when everything was cleared away, I remembered the perfume comment and asked if she would like me to pass it to her. She was delighted and directed me to the right bottle. I passed it over and she told me how she feels so much better if she can smell the perfume. Then she offered to spray me too and it literally smelt of flowers. Every time I smelt the flowers for the rest of the day I thought of her.

She is getting stronger and one day she won’t need me anymore and I know that I will miss her and her stories. For the moment I will be there every day and her daughter is happy knowing that her mum is safe and cared for and mum and dog are happy too.
