Hook Home Help provides help and support in and around the home, which today included rescuing fish
Yesterday the three of us met up at the same place to visit different clients. Every client has different needs and we provide a different service for each person and yesterday this included rescuing fish! With our first client we were changing the sheets, having a chat and all the usual things but with the second client, I said casually, “I think there’s something wrong with your pond on the balcony”. He replied that it was just that a plant had been knocked over in the wind but I had spotted that half the water had leaked out and the fish were nowhere to be seen. This is where the rescue mission started.
He went off to get a hose, his friend came round to try to diagnose the issue and another neighbour popped in to see what was going on! It was all hands on deck to try and resolve the issue and get water back in.
There was some panic that we had lost the fish and the whole thing was doomed. Luckily his friend is a retired engineer and he got to work on diagnosing the problem.
My friend asked quietly, “How many fish are supposed to be in there? I can’t see any and he looks really worried”. There were supposed to be four fish but there were none to be seen.
The hose wasn’t working so we went old school and I carried buckets of water to and from the pond. While the boys resolved the technical issues, we tidied the house and then I brought the water bucket by bucket. There was a lot of concern and a fair amount of despair but with a bit of teamwork, the water levels went up and after a while to everyone’s relief the fish emerged.
The girls carried on helping in the flats and I carried on carrying buckets. Then the time came and the girls went home, the neighbours went back to their homes, and I stayed until it was sorted out and my client felt better. We watched the fish swimming happily and he said quietly, “Thank you so much for your help with this today”.
