“I wanted to say a massive thank you for all of the help and support you gave to my mum over the past few weeks and months. You made a massive difference to both her physical and mental wellbeing”

The sun has set for a very special client. We had too many life connections for this to be an entirely professional relationship. She looked after my son at school when he was little and her son was one of his favourite teachers. When she came to me for help, she made it clear that she wanted me to be her helper because of these connections over the years. Looking back at our messages, from the first one she said, “I would like to book a visit with you. I know you and totally trust you”. 

From when I was young, I knew that I wanted my work to be something that would really make a positive difference to people’s lives. I looked forward to visiting her because she was so lovely, and I could feel that these visits really made that difference. She had so many physical difficulties and life was so hard on her but she was always so happy, so accepting and so kind to everyone around her, and she was so appreciative of my help. 

Together we sorted out her house, watered her garden, went to appointments, drank tea and chatted. She told me all about her family. It was so touching to hear how much she loved them and how much they loved her back. I am really surprised and really touched to find out that she also told them about me. Her daughter wrote, “I wanted to say a massive thank you for all of the help and support you gave to my mum over the past few weeks and months. You made a massive difference to both her physical and mental wellbeing”. I had no idea that her daughter even knew who I was. Right now it feels like she has left a physical hole in my heart. 

I leant on my friend last night and she replied, “I am so grateful on behalf of the universe that you feel called to do this work, which is joyful and painful, and I’m sorry that to feel the joy you are having to feel the pain. It sounds like she and her son looked after your son and you looked after her. You made a difference to her life, the same way she made a difference to yours. Hopefully over time the hole in your heart will heal and be able to shine brighter with the love and kindness you offered each other”. In the meantime, I’ll take the memories of our time together with me
