Hook Home Help is taking people out and about to enjoy the sunshine

Sometimes we take people to appointments which are stressful and serious. We will support our clients emotionally and practically with everything we can. Sometimes we are standing in for family members who live far away so the responsibility is big and we take notes and relate everything back afterwards. Sometimes, however, we just take people out for the joy of going out.

Sometimes we take people out for their birthdays or just to celebrate the fact that the sun is shining. When we do this we are providing the transport and the company, just like a family member would. Some people have family who live far away and can't make it over very often. Others have lost touch with their family, or don't want to ask because they know that they are busy.

Sometimes people's eyes light up when we tell them that we will happily take them anywhere and do anything. One lady said, "My friend can take me to the shops but it would be nice to go and know that I am not holding her up. To go one time when I can take all the time I need and potter as much as I want." That is what we offer - pottering. Pottering, and chatting, and carrying the bags and stopping for a cup of tea on the way home.

When we get home, we carry the bags in, put things away, maybe plants some plants, and then I will say, "Shall I make you a cup of tea before I go?", and she will say, "I don't think you have time", but I will make sure that I do. Regardless of the time, I will always make the time to make sure that she has some tea and is settled before I go.

Sometimes we are helping people with the hard things and sometimes we helping with the good things. Either way we are making life a bit easier and a bit happier.
