“Mum told me yesterday that she likes the lady who looks after her”.
This lady’s mum is suffering from some memory problems. Sometimes she is doing quite well and other times she needs some help to remember to eat and drink. We go round and help to keep everything ship shape. We always make sure this lady eats something while we are there and has a good amount to drink.
We clear up the kitchen and make sure the cats are fed and the litter trays are done. We tidy up and clean the house and ensure the heating is on when it is cold. We put the washing on, take the bins out and have a bit of a chat about how things used to be.
Every time we go, we send a report back to her daughter about how her mum is and what she needs. Sometimes we take her out to walk to the shop to buy bread or milk and sometimes we let the daughter know what would be useful to bring when she comes. This way we all work together to keep her as happy and safe as possible and her daughter knows she can have a day off.
When there is time we do some colouring together or make some craft. She always enjoys this and is pleased with what she’s made. There are lots of family photos on the walls and she likes a chat about who everyone is and what they got up to when they were little! Stories that the family have heard a thousand times, but they are new to us and they make us laugh together.
Hook Home Help is supporting people to live independently, happily and healthily. We are also supporting the families so that the adult children can have a day off and still know that their parents are safe and well. We currently have some availability
