What does Hook Home Help do?

Hook Home Help has grown into a small team of people so we can offer different services to different people. Quite often our clients just need some help with the cleaning but it turns out that they also appreciate the company. 

Sometimes people need some extra help following an operation or a stay in hospital. Some of our clients like some help in the garden in the summer, and not in the winter. Some people like a monthly trip to the shops or the hairdresser. We can organise one-off and short term visits as and when people need help. 

Most people like us to pop in every week so they know that they have some help at some point. Sometimes we are the only people that the client will see all week. Often this is the first time that people have had to ask for help and we will handle that delicately. 

Each person comes with their own needs and their own stories. We are not an agency. We will match the right helper to the right person. We will go in as little, or as often, as is required. 

Sometimes our greatest value lies in reassuring people who live far away that their relative is well and happy. Sometimes we are taking the strain off relatives who live locally but are short on time. Sometimes we are providing company and support where there is no other family involved. 

When people ask what we do, I say that we do whatever you would do for your mum if you lived close by and had the time. We help out in the home, and make tea and chat and listen. We take people where they want to go and allow them the time to potter. We listen to the happy stories and the sad stories.
