“I recommend Penny’s company for their quick response to my inquiry, for their friendliness, understanding and flexibility. They worked around my dad and his resistance to help but I can instantly notice when someone has been in. The house is clean and there are little things that make a difference, like cushions being plumped.”


This is from the daughter of a lovely older gentleman who is over 90 and gently, but firmly independent! We have been helping him for a few months on a fortnightly basis. He manages everything himself and we had no contact with any other members of his family so my heart leapt when I had a message to call his daughter who had tracked us down! He had had a fall but luckily the damage wasn’t too bad. 


Within 24 hours I had spoken to both daughters. We had a good chat and realised we had some mutual friends and colleagues, which was nice. Then we had formed a plan that Hook Home Help would go in every day to help him with lunch and to let them know how he was. 


It was sad to see him in pain and much depleted on that first day, but he was so appreciative of the help and for a warm pasty and some coffee. He just needed the phone and drinks in arm’s reach and a bit of help to keep on top of things in the kitchen. The daughter had a daily update and we worked around their schedule, going in whenever the family couldn’t.


As soon as he was slightly stronger, he was declaring himself fully recovered and in need of no extra help! One of the daughters was worried that we had been inconvenienced by the chopping and changing, but this is what we do. As soon as the team was in, it was out again! But now the whole family knows that we can do the same thing whenever he might need it. He has met more members of the team and has a wider network of support should he ever need it in the future. 


Hook Home Help is generally doing weekly or fortnightly visits but is also doing crisis management when needed. Contact me if you would like to know more
